History of Pickett's Autumn Gold Sorghum Pickett's Autumn Gold Sorghum was founded in 1913 by Robert Warren Pickett. His building began as a blacksmith shop, then became a feed mill and finally a sorghum plant. Warren was a man who made sorghum a tradition, passing it to his son Hollis, who passed it along to his sons Joe and Ronnie and their families. Today, Ronnie Pickett oversees the cane sorghum production. Every fall, workers harvest and manufacture the sorghum during a six-week period from the final week of August to mid-October. Ronnie, his wife Janice, and two sons Michael and Dale, and Grandson Levi are active in the process. They start with the morning harvest and continue until the finished product is packaged nearly 24 hours from when they started. |
